Alhamdulillah hoy es viernes, it’s Friday as I love it.
Fridays in Lima are always refreshing. Not because the day after Friday is Saturday
that means no work but because I can go the masjid, pray Jummah and meet other
sisters.
Back home I can hear azan five times a day from the nearest
masjid , I can present in any majlis at the time that I like and I can meet
many sisters with hijab easily. Here, no ! Among the crowd, I am the only woman
with veil, a woman with a funny head who makes other people think “que esta
poniendo en su cabeza !”.

I must admit that the first months in Lima were quite
difficult. Being away from a more Islamic environment back home in Indonesia
makes me looking for more Islamic exposures. Yes, I can replace the voice of live
azan with the azan from Islamic Finder. Yes, I can watch Islamic sermons in the
internet and download any sermon that I want. Yes to the chance of meeting
other sisters randomly. But still, I miss listening to a live azan in a masjid,
I miss listening to a live sermon and I do miss meeting other sisters.
Alhamdulillah, it is Allah who shows me an answer to my
spiritual yearning. The answer is Friday.
Picture this in every Friday, a masjid with a room which is
full of sisters who wear hijab. They are sitting and listening to wise words
from Sheikh and praying together. After the pray, they say salaam to each other
and ask how is everybody. Nothing can be more beautiful than this, masha Allah.
I always love the time when I greet my Peruvian sisters and
ask como estas tu ? And when they say “Alhamdulillah todo bien”, it fills my
heart with love because of Allah. The short conversation that I have with them
every Friday, little stories that they share, new sisters that I sometimes I meet
are experiences that complete me every Friday.
With those experiences, I am richer every Friday, alhamdulillah.
